Rules and Regulations

Flowers and floral decorations are ENCOURAGED to be used in permanent vases only.

Artificial and fresh cut flowers may be placed year round, as mentioned above, but they will be removed when they become withered, faded or unsightly.

The use of wooden crosses, iron crosses, small shepherd hooks, picture frames, baskets of any kind, boxes, shells, toys, dolls, metal designs, rocks, ornaments, glass, solar lights, and similar articles shall not be permitted and if so, the cemetery may remove them.

Graves may be decorated in any reasonable manner during the MEMORIAL DAY celebration. All decorations after 2 weeks following MEMORIAL DAY will be removed by the cemetery staff in order to mow and maintain the cemetery.

Graves may be decorated in a reasonable manner also for the holidays of EASTER, MOTHER’S DAY, FATHER’S DAY AND THANKSGIVING. At these times, potted plants and wreaths may be used. Such decorations should be picked up 1 WEEK after the special days listed above. The cemetery will not be responsible for any decorations that are discarded.

Winter decorations will be permitted from December 1 thru March 1, after such time the cemetery staff will begin removing said decorations to begin spring clean-up of the cemetery.

Greenwood Cemetery decorations must be regulated. We do not wish to displease or upset anyone; quite the contrary, we want to make your cemetery pleasing to everyone and we feel sure these rules will provide a much more beautiful and comforting place to come and pay your respects. WORDS OF CAUTION - two problems beyond our control are strong winds and vandalism. Nebraska weather conditions are both extreme and unpredictable - all floral decorations must be securely fastened. The cemetery will prosecute anyone found guilty of stealing decorations. We greatly appreciate your assistance in helping us keep the cemetery beautiful and dignified by following these regulations. Thank you very much!!

These Rules and Regulations became effective July 1, 2012.

PERPETUAL CARE

Perpetual Care involves mowing, cleaning up any debris, faded flowers or decorations, and removing dead or unsightly shrubs and trees. The Sexton will discuss any restrictions in size or type of monument or marker at the time a space or lot is purchased.

RESPONSIBILITY OF LOT OWNER

  • No monument or marker of any kind shall be placed without consulting the Sexton.
  • No plant, shrub or tree shall be planted without consulting the Sexton.
  • Any repair or resetting of monuments or markers shall be paid by the owner and approved, or done by the sexton.
  • Damage caused by vandalism should be included in your homeowner’s insurance policy; check this with your agent.
  • Any damage caused to monuments by cemetery employees is covered by Greenwood’s liability insurance.

TRIMMING TREES

No curbing, railing or fence of any kind shall be permitted around any lot or part of a lot in the cemetery. Trees and shrubs shall not be planted, cut down, removed or trimmed unless permission to do so is given by the Sexton and all such work must be done by employees of the cemetery.

REMOVAL OF FLORAL DESIGNS, SHRUBS, PLANTS & TEMPORARY MARKERS

The association shall have authority to remove all floral designs, flowers, weeds, trees, shrubs, plants or herbage of any kind from the cemetery as soon as, in the judgment of the Sexton, they become unsightly, dangerous, detrimental, or diseased, or when they do not conform to the standards maintained. The association shall not be liable for floral pieces, baskets, or frames in which, or to which, floral pieces are attached. Temporary markers will only be allowed for 1 year after burial.

NOTICE

At the May 14, 1991 Board Meeting of the Greenwood Cemetery, a motion was passed that anyone purchasing grave spaces must pay at least 50% down at the time of purchase, the balance in monthly payments or in full within six months or forfeit their original payment and the grave space.
